Nurture the Next Generation

Our holistic madrassa curriculum aims to bring the fullness and beauty of the deen to life for our children...

In today’s complex world, helping our children connect deeply with traditional Islamic knowledge and practices feels ever more important. Living in the modern city can distract us from appreciating and enjoying many elements of existence. We want to cultivate practical experiences which help our young people connect with the ayats they are studying in their Qur’an class.

Your support will help us deliver our comprehensive curriculum which aims to nurture spiritual growth and cultivate a generation of confident, knowledgeable, morally upright young Muslims.  Our Madrassa will focus on the traditional study of Qur’an, Islamic Sciences, and Islamic manners, underscored and augmented by a strong emphasis on application in every day life, empowering students to become exemplary leaders in our community and wider society.

Abu Bakr ibn Abdur Rahman, may Allah have mercy on him, said:   “Whoever departs to the mosque in the morning intending nothing but it and to teach goodness, or to learn it himself, and then he returns to his house, he is like one who strives in the way of Allah and returns with spoils.”– Imam Malik, al- Muwatta.

HELP US REALISE OUR VISION FOR A HOLISTIC MADRASSA

At the heart of any thriving Muslim community lies education. Knowledge (‘Ilm), and its implementation in daily actions (‘Amal), the practice of courtesy and good manners (Adab), and a deep spiritual connection (Ihsan) are the essential pillars that form a wholesome Islamic upbringing (Tarbiyyah).

Traditional Study

Our curriculum focuses on the foundations of faith and knowledge. We aim to connect in-depth Qur’anic studies and memorisation, with the exploration of traditional Islamic sciences including Fiqh, Hadith, and Aqedah while emphasising the practical lived experience of applying this knowledge within daily life. We teach Qur’an memorisation using a wooden tablet or lawh, which is a beautiful and tactile tradition common in northern Africa.

Active Study

With the aim of cultivating confident, upright and balanced young people the madrassa will also provide opportunities for students to learn outside of the classroom. We keenly recognise the importance of physical and social activities in nurturing well-rounded individuals. To this end, our curriculum will include gardening, encouraging children to connect with nature, learn about sustainability, and appreciate the blessings of Allah through hands-on experience, as well as Sunnah sports clubs where children can engage in physical activities that promote health and teamwork. We will also see our students embark on adventures together on our summer exchange programs with the Great Mosque of Granada, Spain.

Lifelong Learning

Shifa Mosque will serve as a hub for lifelong learning, extending beyond children’s Madrassa education. We will offer advanced and introductory courses for adults, including programmes for new Muslims, courses in Fiqh, Sirah, and Tafsir and ongoing educational opportunities for the entire community curated according to need.

"I found using the lawh to learn to memorise so special. When we finished learning our ayats we would wash the board to make space for the next. We had to rinse the boards over the earth and flowers and not let a drop fall in the drain because the ink had held the words of the Qur'an in it. I felt peaceful and connected while I was washing the board, and I was proud of my progress"
