Help us feed the community!

We want to establish a food bank, a weekly jumu'a lunch, and a daily iftar during Ramadan...

…and make Shifa Mosque a robust and reliable source of community support and nourishment. Poverty in the UK is on the rise, and in the past 5 years the reliance on food banks in the UK has risen by 94% putting their use at an all-time high.*

With your help we can make sure our local community is fed. Gatherings with baraka-filled food is where we, as Muslims, exchange knowledge and care. Sharing food strengthens communities, reconciles hearts and can be one of the most powerful acts that invite people to the Deen.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved food to Allah is that which is received by many hands”.

HELP US REALISE OUR VISION FOR FEEDING THE COMMUNITY:

Post-Jumu’a Lunch
Jumu’a is a blessed time and a much need chance for the community to come together and reconnect. More importantly, this is also a time for new Muslims to learn, build relationships and feel supported as a part of the ummah. We’re raising funds to be able to offer lunch after the jumu’a prayer, so our congregation can bond and strengthen ties as they share food. We want the people who use our mosque to hang around after the prayer, break bread, and get to know each other!

Ramadan Soup Kitchen
We’ll be hosting an iftar soup-kitchen in Ramadan serving food every night before the tarawih prayer. Run on a community rota, it will be a consistent and safe space where locals come to for company and communal worship. Many people who have moved away from their families to work or study in London find themselves very alone. In our efforts to build community, the Ramadan soup kitchen will also be a way of tackling isolation.

Foodbank
We’re cooperating with local food producers to build and resource our community foodbank. It will offer foodstuffs to anyone, Muslim and non-Muslim, who comes to Shifa Mosque in need. It will also be a way of facilitating the distribution of sadaqa. Those who want to give sadaqa locally will be able to with peace of mind, knowing their gifts are going straight back into the community.

"Some of the fondest memories I have are of preparing food and eating together at home and at the mosque. Now as an adult, I love cooking for the community, and I want other people to taste and experience what I was blessed with growing up."

- Sabah, Shifa community member
