A vision of beauty and fitrah
Rooted in light and healing Shifa Mosque will be a serene and welcoming space with an atmosphere perfect for reflection and connection
In this fast paced city we are often overstimulated and overstretched. Muslims looking for a way to escape the hustle and bustle are increasingly drawn to country retreats and expensive foreign trips to try to reconnect themselves with a sense of their ‘fitrah’ (innate nature). We envisage Shifa Mosque as a haven in the city which can help local Muslims feel this connection with their natural state in their daily lives.
Shifa Mosque will be thoughtfully designed as a place of worship, learning, and community. The interiors will embrace simplicity and warmth, using tactile materials and a modern interpretation of Islamic design that is approachable and inclusive. Rather than adhering to a singular cultural style, the design language will be intentionally diverse, fostering a welcoming environment for people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures.
Rooted in sustainability and longevity, the mosque renovation will integrate natural materials and a neutral palette, creating a calming atmosphere that enhances spiritual connection. A communal kitchen will serve as a hub for gathering and nourishment, while a beautifully cultivated courtyard filled with healing plants will offer a serene retreat for reflection and interaction. Together, these elements embody the mosque’s purpose—not just as a place of prayer, but as a centre for a healthy, mutually supportive community.
